All who are obsessed with being secure in life will lose it all—including their lives. But those who let go of their lives and surrender them to Me will discover true life. Luke 17:33 TPT
Here is another Bible verse where Jesus teaches us to live for eternity and not for our temporal life here.
If, like Lot’s wife (Genesis 19:26) we become enamored with the pursuit of earthly benefits, then we will lose sight of eternal ones, and our lives will be led astray.
If our eyes remain fixed upon the Lord, He will guide us and bring us safely into His presence. The direction of our gaze determines our destination.
If we are distracted by the things of the world, become complacent and seek comfort and security from them instead of God we will end up with sulphur and fire as our reward and forfeit redemption, reconciliation to God and eternity with Him. It is impossible to serve both God and worldly wealth.
Colossians 3:1-4 TPT Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority! Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ. And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with Him in His glory!
Chose Jesus. Choose His road to salvation. Choose saved over safe!
Think about it for a moment - invite Holy Spirit to read the Bible with you and give you clarity and wisdom. The ways of Jesus are so perplexing. Jesus, who is fully God and fully man, decides to handpick 12 people to follow Him on an epic journey, a journey that would have worldwide impact and change millions of people over thousands of years!
“But just do one small thing,” Jesus says. “Leave your life behind and follow Me.”
Luke 9:62 TPT Jesus responded, “Why do you keep looking back to your past and have second thoughts about following Me? If you turn back you are not fit for God’s kingdom.”
Leave your plans. Leave your way of life. Leave your jobs. Leave the known. Leave your hometown. Leave your security. Leave your bank account, your comfortable bed, your routine, safety. Leave it all and follow Me.
Would you do it? If Jesus picked us 2000 years ago, would we act like we didn’t hear Him? Ignore His question? Maybe turn and walk the other direction.
The Bible makes it look like the first disciples were ready to just drop their nets before Jesus even finished asking them to. And they probably did! Because it was Jesus in front of them - and maybe they were so ready to be a part of something so much greater than themselves! Even if they were ignorant teenagers, looking for an adventure and a way out of going to work. But they did it. They left their life as they knew it and followed Jesus.
Today too, Jesus asks us to leave our life behind when we began following Him - leave behind the broken, hardened heart, the regret and shame the greed and fear, the self reliance and security of safely mapping out your life with your own agenda.
