In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water. God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light! Genesis 1:1-3 NET

His voice sustains the cosmos, cleanses the leper, and raises the dead. He is Amazing grace!

Do we stop mid stride long enough to realize that Jesus could have commanded the fish to jump from the water into the boat for Peter? God doesn’t need the help of people, but He does make use of it: “Let down your nets again.”

It’s certain that when it comes to advancing His kingdom on earth, often God works despite us, regularly He works through us, but only very rarely does He work without us.

Lets ask this question, if Christ told us personally to go and fish for people (and I am certain He has), where would we go, and what would we say? If we had the “salvation is for all” mind-set at work, in our kitchen, at the gym, in the line at the grocery store, at the fence with a neighbour on a Saturday afternoon, talking with other parents (or grandparents) at a school sporting event, what would change about the way we approached these opportunities?

Would we forge ahead all engines full, bearing down on people with a my way or the highway or would we let Holy Spirit put a check in our step, catch our breath, allow resting on Jesus’ words to take over our thoughts and speech, His way is the way.

If we pause, our level of trust in the Lord must rise to the point we are able to truly surrender. Give it all to God. Surrender our misconceived notion of controlling outcomes, surrender demanding our own timing and release to Him the false thoughts that every good thing must come by our own blood, sweat, and tears.

Trusting instead in the finished work of Jesus and receiving His provisions as we lay ourselves down to rest.
