Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God. For the one who enters God’s rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from His own works. Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9-11 NET
It’s time we view rest as the gift it truly is, as something precious, holy, and sacred. It’s time we exchange our to-do list of activities with a today list of experiences.
Experiencing the unconditional love of God. Needing Holy Spirit every day!
We must feel this need if we are to share our faith effectively. Do you still feel the amazement of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice? Like “He loved me and gave Himself for me”?
That blows me away, like bursting with joy over the top!
When we see who Jesus is as glorious light and strength, limited by nothing, and who we are, broken sinners, nothing less than will do. This need for Holy Spirit is the prerequisite lifestyle of an effective fisher of man.
How does one even begin to emulate such an example as Christ? Well, like almost everything else in the Christian life, it all begins with a purpose and a promise: “Follow me,” Jesus says (there’s the purpose), “and I will make you become fishers of men,” and that’s the promise.
Whether we are in full-time ministry or working in a retail store; studying for a degree, or caring for children at home—God has a purpose behind whatever season we are in.
We can certainly choose to coast in life with no real purpose. Perhaps we choose to make decisions for our future, confiding in nothing but our own human knowledge. Or, thankfully, we are also given the option to choose to step into God’s calling and unique purpose for us as we become partners with the Author of this story of life.
