But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:1 NIV
In the Bible, God shares through Apostle Peter to warn about false teachers. He is warning us of the dangers of following those who may say they have the truth, but in fact they do not know the truth.
What they say and what they teach is not leading us closer to Jesus, but further away from Him, dividing God’s children into small groups of arguments instead of the body of Christ - His people His church
Peter goes one step further and describes exactly what these false prophets look like. Go back and read some of the descriptions he uses. They are like “unreasoning animals”, “creatures of instinct”, and “like animals they too will perish.”
And these teachings are as relevant now as they have been every day of the past 2,000 years - to warn us to be thoughtful and wise about who we follow and who we are listening to and what we allow into our daily thoughts and activities in order to guide our life.
Wow- so true- This impacts each of our lives. Our lives are all listening and following someone. Most likely it is not a named person in your life that is a false teacher. It is more likely to be something in this culture that is lying to us by promising freedom, but only leading us to slavery.
TV shows with a form of humour so often accepted by viewers but is actually cruel and belittling, movies that are action packed but have no consideration for the value of human life….
John 16:13 TPT But when He, our truth-giving Holy Spirit comes, He will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak on His own, but only what He hears from God the Father, and He will reveal prophetically to you what is to come.
We live in a world that is defined by monetary success, gluttony, greed, and a persons identity is often shaped and lead by immoral attributes accepted as those cultural norms. We want to look like this, or talk like this, or have this, but in reality none of those things will satisfy our hearts.
They are false teachers that do not lead us to the ultimate satisfaction in Jesus, but leave us empty and always wanting more.
What a revelation for our hungry hearts to become full of the truth that Jesus Christ is the remedy, the way the truth the life.
