Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28 NET
Tension. Anxiety. You can feel it in the air. In every conversation and every news report. As we open our social media feed, our heart races a little. We see familiar faces under masks at the grocery stores who smile but abruptly turn away in case you want to stop and chat. We toss and turn at night.
As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across our world, these are anxious days.
This world is God’s good creation, and yet, for some it feels like the world is tilted and we are just sidestepping through the week trying to keep our foothold.
And while there are many different opinions as to the current truth of COVID, deep down, we all know it’s not supposed to be like this. Our bodies are so vulnerable. So too is the economy, our healthcare systems, our governments.
Proverbs 12:25 NET Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy.
And my friends, we don’t need to bury our anxiety. These days we are in are reminding us all of the things that have always been true: something is wrong with the world and we are not in control.
But we do know the one who is. God. He is not surprised by this virus. He is not panicking. Not one atom is outside of His control.
While anxiety when we feel unsafe is a natural response in the face of danger, we must trust in Jesus, because with Christ we can know real safety. Eternally.
