I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have before Him: that whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from Him. 1 John 5:13-15 NET
My friends, because we have a relationship with God, it is praying in Jesus Christ’s name, a conversation, that we need to bring to the forefront. Jesus has invited, urged, and commanded us to pray in His name and has promised His will be done over our lives with incredible results.
A good example of the invitation to conversation is when we pray we conclude with the phrase, "in Jesus' name."
What does that mean?
It means that we can come boldly before God because of the power of His name.
Jesus has literally given us His name. Amazing Grace! When we use His name, we are confessing that He is ours and that we are His! Hallelujah! Thank You God!
It means we pray in His authority.
To pray in Jesus’ name is to ask by His authority; to accept His sovereign authority. Asking by His authority is to ask in accordance to His will as revealed in His word. As believers, we can be fully confident of the power within the name of Jesus. When we pray, we have the power of Jesus at work within us. Wow! Very humbling.
It means we submit to His will.
Yes my friends! This is so true! Surrendered to God, walking in the Spirit, is the way of Jesus! When we try to have a conversation with God outside of Jesus, asking for things contrary to the Word of God, those prayers will never be answered.
Jesus' authority rested with His submission to God, therefore our authority in Jesus rests with our submission to Him. Asking in the name of Jesus is to ask according to His nature, and His nature is one of submission.
I encourage you to take some time this week to search in the Bible for the following words about Jesus such as "In My name”, "In Jesus' name”, or "In His name”.
