For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.  2 Corinthians 5:14-15 NASB

Our rest is not to be found in figuring life out, but in trusting the One who has it all figured out for our good and His glory!

I think a lot of us, probably most people, have a deep desire to know and understand. We spend much of our daily thinking time trying to figure things out. We don’t live by Holy Spirit’s promptings. We don’t leave our lives alone. We are all theologians. We are all philosophers. We are all archaeologists who dig into the mounds of our lives to try to make sense of the ant hill that is our personal story.

God designed our thoughts, emotions, responses, and these are accompanied by wonderful and mysterious analytical gifts from the Lord, all things that set us apart from the rest of creation. They are holy, created by God to draw us to Him, so that we can know Him and understand ourselves in light of His existence and His will.

But sin tempts us to think that we can find our hearts by figuring it all out our own way. It’s the “If only I could understand this or that, then I’d be secure” way of living. But it never works. In the most brilliant moment, we will still be left without answers in life; sometimes even painful unknowns. We all face things that appear to make little sense and don’t seem to serve any good purpose. So rest is never found in the quest to understand or control it all - rest is found in trusting God, the One who gives life,  all for His glory and our good.
