But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7 NASB
Seated.
There is Peace When we Sit With Jesus.
What does it mean that we are seated at the Greatest Table with the Greatest King? Why was Apostle Paul able to write Ephesians 2 when he was seated – not at any kind of royal table – but in prison?
Before I met Jesus I wasn’t living like someone who had a seat at the kingdom table. I lived like I was fighting for survival in this world.
But when I finally saw myself seated with Christ at His table, I understood that everything I longed for – that belonging, forgiveness, and peace – was already happening to me because I was with Jesus. Most importantly, I could take my eyes off of myself and just rest in the seat, worshipping Jesus and living out the “good works which God prepared in advance” for me to do as promised in Ephesians 2:10.
Seated at the Lord’s table, we get to experience the kingdom He created us for. My friends, we have a seat at His table together. Here, we all belong, and from this position of security, self-forgetfulness, and equality with one another, we can learn from Holy Spirit. We have the fullness of Christ at His table.
There are a lot of teachings, books, devotionals, about walking with Jesus and walking with Him is a fantastic piece of living redeemed but do we accept the invites to also sit at the table with Jesus?? The other day praying for this weeks sermon I thought about how people seated with Jesus live, I considered how when we have a seat always ready for Jesus, we will have a seat in His heavenly Kingdom, and, with God’s will, get to abide deeply, bearing the fruit He ordains for our lives and the lives of those He puts on our road home.
Can you fathom just how huge the table in heaven must be?!? The table Jesus invites us to join Him at has more than enough seats for each and every person God has created, for the generations who came before us, for every person alive today and for all who are yet to come.
