Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 NASB
Wow. Amazing grace. A prayer taught thousands of years ago, that was faithfully spoken every morning in our public schools until roughly the mid to late 1980’s .....
Jesus teaches us that every day, throughout the day, there is a time to pray and believe, whether life is spinning it’s wheels in the mud, or we have received an opportunity hoped for…. make a commitment to keep praying! We all need to pray.
Colossians 4:2-4 NET Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us too, that God may open a door for the message so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may make it known as I should.
Maybe people do not pray regularly because we don’t feel any sense of His presence. But my friends God is with us. All the time. And when we trust Jesus, Holy Spirit is in us. ask Him to teach you how to pray, invite Holy Spirit to pray with you, we need Him!
If we are ever free from this sense of need, it is not because Holy Spirit has satisfied us, but because we have sought to be satisfied with the world’s offerings over God. Prayer, like we’ve talked about before- is as an ongoing conversation with God, prayer keeps our eyes focused on His will, on the heart Jesus Christ, on the guidance of Holy Spirit.
When Jesus taught, and He still does through His Bible, regarding prayer He never once referred to unanswered prayer; He said that God always answers prayers within His will. If our prayers are in the name of Jesus, that is, in accordance with His nature, don’t forget the answers will not be in accordance with our wants and needs, but with His nature.
We are apt to forget this, and to say without thinking that God does not always answer prayer. He does every time, and when we are in close communion with Him, we realize that we have not been misled.
Jeremiah 29:12-13 NET When you call out to Me and come to Me in prayer, I will hear your prayers. When you seek Me in prayer and worship, you will find Me available to you. If you seek Me with all your heart and soul.
The purpose of prayer is the relationship, again a daily conversation, with God amid conditions which are not always ideal but are always very real. It’s like praying is the vital breath of Christians; not the thing that makes us alive, but the evidence that we are alive. Keep praying no matter what.
