The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 NIV

Jesus is God’s perfect offering!  referred to as the “Lamb of God”, because His sacrifice on the cross covered the sin of humanity.

Amazing grace! One of the many miracles of the cross is that it reversed the curse of Adam and Eve’s sin: Just as that one act of disobedience  separated all of humanity from God, the sacrifice made by one perfect person covered the sin of all people and made a way for reconciliation.

Because Jesus offered Himself for us, we have the opportunity to be in relationship with God again. When God looks at us, He doesn’t see our sin - He sees the righteousness of His Son.

2 Corinthians 5:21 God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in JESUS we would become the righteousness of God.

Jesus has won the victory over sin, and He has freely shared that victory with each of us! It is for freedom we’ve been set free. Walk in it!

I know life can be difficult, so very difficult, and one of Satan’s goals is for us to live in the darkness of guilt from our pasts. The enemy knows that even if we believe that Jesus died for our sins, while still carrying the guilt of our sin, we won’t truly receive the blessing and freedom of His forgiveness. We’ll live in the shadow of our worst sin.

In John 9:5, Jesus refers to Himself as the Light of the world. But in Matthew 5:14 and 16, Jesus also said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden...In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Jesus would never expect us to be a light for His glory if He didn’t provide a way out of the darkness of shame and guilt.

And Psalm 103:10-12 tells us that God’s love for us is greater than we could ever imagine, and that He has taken our sin so far away from us that we cannot fully grasp the incredible distance! That’s how I feel at times so completely bewildered by His joy that He pours into me!

When Jesus died on the cross, He forever took the weight of sin off of those who believe in Him, those who recognize Jesus Christ as our risen Saviour, declaring He was crucified and conquering death was resurrected, we can freely receive His forgiveness, live without guilt, and feel welcome and embraced in the presence of God, AND more importantly share those same gifts with others as they walk their road to salvation!

As we get closer to celebrating the resurrection of Jesus, let’s remember that His death purchased not only our forgiveness from sin, but the authority to throw off the weight of guilt. The debt of our sin, even the darkest sin, has been paid for by the blood of Jesus. Walk in His freedom today!
