This means that, contrary to man’s perspective, the Lord is not late with His promise to return, as some measure lateness. But rather, His “delay” simply reveals His loving patience toward you, because He does not want any to perish but all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 TPT
In our lives, we tend to focus our time, attention, and energy on things that don’t really matter in the end. Then we realize we’ve “skipped a meal” and wander hungry - remember Jesus is our source!
When we read through the Bible we realize that Jesus is coming back (and probably sooner than we know)…. His return as “a thief in the night” means we don’t know when Jesus will return. But I know one thing… When Jesus does return, I want to be caught doing something that matters.
There’s nothing wrong with video games, social media, sports, or any other hobbies.
However, in light of the imminent return of Christ, all of those things seem a lot less mandatory .
2 Peter 3:10-13 CSB But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed. Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness as you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming. Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat. But based on his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
Jesus is coming back soon, may we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. May we continue to know more about Jesus. May we wake up each day wanting to experience more of Jesus. And may we grow in our capacity to receive and walk in His love and grace for us.
So, my beloved friends, with all that you have to look forward to, may you be eager to be found living lives for Jesus when you come into His presence, without blemish and filled with peace. And keep in mind that our Lord’s extraordinary patience simply means more opportunity for salvation, and being part of another’s salvation story.
