He made me walk all around among them. I realized there were a great many bones in the valley and they were very dry. He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said to Him, “Sovereign Lord, You know.” Then He said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them: Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Ezekiel 37:2-4 NET
When Ezekiel passed through the valley of dry bones, in Ezekiel 37:2, he noticed two things: 1. That there were very many bones in the valley. 2. The bones were very dry. We later find out in Ezekiel 37:11, that these very dry bones represented the spiritual condition of Israel during that time. The valley of dry bones, that Ezekiel was led to, was not a representation of nor a reflection of Ezekiel’s present heart condition or his present season.
In fact, the bones in the valley were a reflection of God’s children's spiritual state and season during that time. Their hope as a nation was dry and withered. As a people they were emotionally drained, spiritually slain and physically defeated. In fact, the Bible calls the condition of the bones in the valley as “very dry”.
Ezekiel was sent by God to speak life to their dry and defeated situation. Through the Bible, he speaks into our same situations today.
And don't forget too, God will send us to someone else’s dry valley in order to speak life. When God sends us into someone else’s valley, He does not send us broken, dry or defeated — He sends us full and with His authority, to deliver a message of hope to a valley full of dry bones. God has put His Word in your mouth and His fire in your hands in order to rebuild, revive and to restore. HALLELUJAH!
Ezekiel 37:3 KJV And He said unto Me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest.
God asked Ezekiel, “Can these bones live?” In other words, is it possible for God to revive and restore what has been dead and long forgotten about, for many years, and live again? The answer is undoubtedly — Yes! When God’s Power breathes on us!
In the face of seemingly impossible odds, only God’s Word can rebuild, restore and revive dead dreams. He is the Ultimate Architect. Only God can breathe life into old mantles and make them brand new.
