I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me. But He said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 NET

Many of us become discouraged in the midst of affliction because we have underestimated the value of the treasure that trials and tribulations contain. When we lean into God our eyes are opened to this gift of Jesus Christ as the One in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. Holy Spirit shifts our perspective, and we begin to see Christ becoming more clearly expressed to those around us in our daily life. As a result, we become willing to endure affliction with patience and hope knowing that it is producing an eternal glory that goes far beyond all imagination! There are often circumstances in our life that are right at the edge crushing us with unbearable weight but instead they push us to our knees in prayer. The Lord reminds us repeatedly no matter how far gone we are “My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness, your surrender”. Once we receive this from Holy Spirit we quit focusing on the darkness and began appreciating the gift of light so freely given by our Saviour. It has always been a case of Christ’s strength moving in on our weaknesses. Now let us seek to take limitations in stride with joy, limitations that cut us down to size—abuse, disease, opposition, bad choices. Leave it all at the Cross, ask Jesus Christ to take over! And so the weaker we get, the stronger we become.
