“I tell you the solemn truth, the one who hears My message and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the solemn truth, a time is coming – and is now here – when the dead in heart will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. John 5:24-25 NET
We don’t earn it nor deserve it yet our gracious, magnificent God freely offers salvation to all and freely gives it to those who declare Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Many Christians, my husband and I included, refer to the walk with Jesus as being saved. Again, What is salvation? Is it a destination, a state of mind—What does the Bible say about being saved? What is the definition of salvation for a Christian?
I was looking for a Bible definition of salvation, and found it sort of summed up in one word: deliverance. But deliverance from what? from our actions, deeds, behaviours, sins that break God's heart and also destroy us.
Salvation is a process that begins when we accept Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. We are saved, delivered, from our past sins, addictions, destroying behaviours and their penalty (death, physical and or spiritual). We must then begin a life of change and growth—becoming more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. Reading the Bible is a huge piece of growth, so seek daily to grow in His wisdom, read the living word of God. Trust in His word.
Check out Exodus 14:13-14 NET Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand firm and see the salvation of the LORD that He will provide for you today; for the Egyptians that you see today you will never, ever see again. The LORD will fight for you, deliver you, and you can be still.”
In that moment God provided a physical deliverance for His lost people.
