Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ ” Then the devil *took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You’; and ‘On their hands they will bear You up, So that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus *said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’ ” Then the devil *left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him. Matthew 4:1-11 NASB
Life’s roads are journeys designed by God often for inner growth. The enemy desires the opposite: it will try to use such seasons to bring destruction to our lives. The Bible teaches about facing times of difficulty with steadfast prayer, resounding praise, believing that God’s will is sovereign over all. If the enemy can get us to dwell in darkness with fear and despair, we no longer choose to trust God’s sovereignty and goodness. If we accept the enemy’s lie that we’ve been abandoned, our faith is in danger of being destroyed.
My friend! Do not lose heart! We have a shield of faith that quenches all the fiery darts that the enemy sends to bring chaos and destruction in our lives! In ancient wars, armies would light trajectories on fire so that upon landing in the enemy’s territory, the fire would destroy the fields that gave them food, the walls that gave them protection, and the homes that gave them shelter. Pray and ask Holy Spirit to teach you how to take up His shield of faith as you dress in the armour of light.
Choose to seek God. Choose to diligently seek the Counsel of Christ. Choose to inquire and seek His Wisdom. Let His Word lead you. Let His Word guide you. Let His Word direct your course. Choose to follow, worship, and honor God. May His Word transform you. May His Word keep you. May you keep His Word close to your heart. May you seek God while He may be found. May you seek Him while He may be near. May you keep Christ the King close to your heart.
Isaiah 55:6-11 NASB “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
Choose to revere God’s Word and let His principles, promises and precepts guide your pathway. Choose to fear and honor God. Reject ungodly and foolish counsel. embrace God’s Word. Choose to hide and treasure God’s Word in the fabric of your Heart.
Hebrews 4:12 NASB “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
The Lord’s desire is that we reflect Him here on earth until He returns. Every spiritual lesson we learn and Scripture passage we read should be incorporated into our lives and shared with others. The end result will not only be our own spiritual growth, but that others will have these multiple glimpses and encounters with Jesus and desire Him for themselves. Even when we fail in the presence of others, the way that we repent, recover, and continue to praise God will be a witness to His mercy and be a bridge to people who need to surrender their lives to the Lord.
Proverbs 6:23 NASB For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life.
Does everyday life, our hobbies, the workplaces, our households, our schools, reflect God’s power at work? When people see and speak to you, do they experience the love, mercy, and truth of God? Christians are role models whether we chose it or not, whether as a positive or negative one.
May we be God’s people, diligent, to represent Christ well.
