And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you evildoers.’ Luke 13:23-27 NASB
Jesus Himself is the Gospel of salvation. He teaches us that no matter who we are or how badly we've messed up God’s grace, forgiveness and our salvation are available to all who believe by faith in Jesus Christ as the risen Saviour.
Salvation is a process that BEGINS when we accept Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. We are saved, delivered, from our past sins, addictions, destroying behaviours and their penalty (death, physical and or spiritual). But our service unto the Lord does not stop with our personal declaration. In fact it is just the beginning! We must then seek daily the presence and teachings of Holy Spirit through reading the Bible and praying consistently with Him. These are non-negotiable pieces of our Christian life.
God is not interested in a part of us. Only when we seek God with our whole heart will we find Him. He desires for us to pursue Him with all we have. Giving the Lord of all creation only a small part of our hearts is the same as only giving Him 10 minutes of your daily life. God is all knowing, all seeing, holy holy holy is the Lord and the parts we think we hide or hold back from God will forever block us from entering His kingdom.
Matthew 7:13-14 NASB “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
Life begins with choosing Jesus Christ over and above any lies the world offers to distract us with. All of Humanity has the same choice. May we recognize the chaos around us for what it is and move deeper into the eternal presence of God, may we be His people, who pursue Him, sing praise and worship to Him with abandon, speak quietly to Him in prayer, who seek the Lord with all of our heart.
