But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:10-13 NASB

So many people are restless, searching for something of value in our lives from the world’s offerings and not finding it. By appearances we may appear healthy and well but there are days we don’t have nor do we display much hope.

For over two and a half centuries, developments in science, industry, the economy, and medicine have steadily and systematically reduced most physical miseries common to preceding generations of humanity. Yet despite all of these advancements, society is more confused and hollow than ever.

Maybe a piece in our present-day discontentment is that we are more aware of the general suffering of the human race than ever before. Our smartphones link us to news apps that keep us up to date on major occurrences around the world, lies are declared as truths and there are headlines pouring a steady stream of human suffering into our consciousness.  The antidote to all of the mess created by the enemy’s plots and man’s sin?

Jesus Christ, king of kings, our saviour, the messiah.

So let’s take a moment (or a few hundred moments) to pause, breath, clear your schedule of anything deemed not absolutely necessary by God.

With Holy Spirit walking beside us in this pulsating, seething world of unrest we will find the purpose of abiding with Jesus, He will pour His peace and joy into us if we make room for Him — So important is the dwelling in contentment that apostle Paul declared it in Philippians 4:12

Christianity is not a social club, it is about far more than holding right beliefs or adopting right behaviours. At salvation, we enter into a union with God that changes our eternal status.
