He was in the world, and the world was created by Him, but the world did not recognize Him. He came to what was His own, but His own people did not receive Hm. But to all who have received Him – those who believe in His name – He has given the right to become God’s children – children not born by human parents or by human desire, but by God. John 1:10-13 NET

A fair question to ask when we are left marvelling at God’s grace is “why does Jesus love me so much ?! I didn’t “do” anything great or good to be saved?” Not so simply put, the Gospel means that we have been saved from the wrath of God, saved, delivered, from the result of our sin (our actions that break God’s law)—Salvation is possible because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, crucified.  The central truth of the Gospel is that God has provided a way of salvation for men through the gift of His son to the world. Jesus suffered as a sacrifice for sin, overcame death, and now offers us a part in His triumph to all who will accept it. The Gospel is good news because He is the ultimate gift of God, not something that must be earned by penance or by self-improvement but is received by grace.

John 5:24-25 NET “I tell you the solemn truth, the one who hears my message and believes the one who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned, but has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the solemn truth, a time is coming – and is now here – when the dead in heart will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

We don’t earn it nor deserve it yet our merciful, magnificent God freely offers salvation to all and freely gives it to those who declare Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.   And so when we say Salvation is so very important that is a huge understatement. Salvation isn't just a prayer we long for it is the will of God brought to action in the saving of souls from eternal fire and instead bringing us to the foot of His throne for eternity!

Ephesians 1:13-14 NET And when you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation) – when you believed in Christ – you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

God holds in His hand the priceless, precious, eternal offering of salvation, and He bids us to take it without money and without price. The best things in life are free, right? The air we breathe is not sold by the cubic foot. Joy is free, faith is free, hope is free. By His amazing grace! Hallelujah!  We are bearers of Good News—the Gospel, believing Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. Money can’t buy it. Our righteousness can’t earn it. Social prestige can’t help us acquire it.

It makes sense that Jesus’ message is faith fuelled by God’s grace. It is salvation for all who believe in Him. It is mercy and compassion and forgiveness for all who would put their faith in Jesus Christ. He is the personification and the embodiment of grace.

The point is this: Jesus Christ is the center of it all. You and I aren’t. We like to think that we are the apple of God’s eye and that is all that matters, but we are just a part of God’s miraculous creation. He is outside creation, outside our physical limits. He is over, in and through everything. All that is all that was and all that will be. The Gospel is all about God. Indeed, everything in and bordering our galaxy revolves around God.
