But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10 NASB
One of the amazing truths that Jesus taught His last week on earth before going to the cross - is the power of His name, and the privilege of every single believer to use His name for the glory of God’s kingdom, for freedom, healing and victory.
Acts 10:34-37 NASB Opening his mouth, Peter said: “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him. The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)— you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.
Acts 10:38-41 NASB You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. We are witnesses of all the things He did …..They also put Jesus to death by hanging Him on a cross. God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible, not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to those who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
Acts 10:42-46 NASB And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead. Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” While Peter was still speaking these words, Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the …… believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered,
Acts 10:47-48 NASB Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.
Wow! Holy Spirit came upon Jesus Christ with power, and He did good, healing all who were oppressed by satan. Jesus taught the truth that set people free, He healed disease, He cast out demons from people, He calmed the storms, and did so so much more when He was on this earth in a physical body. Before Jesus went to die on the cross, rise again, and ascend to heaven, Jesus taught His disciples that all who put their faith in Him for salvation will do what He did. In fact, every believer would be doing greater works in the name of Jesus!
Jesus said that the greater works of teaching, preaching, healing, and doing the miraculous in people’s lives would be done through His name. For God’s kingdom. The promise of Jesus is that when we ask of God, seek His will, and speak IN the name of Jesus the devil leave, it will be done.
Jesus is the King of kings. There is no one greater than Jesus Christ. All power and authority are from Him.
