Hear, O kings; give ear, O rulers! I—to the Lord, I will sing, I will sing praise to the Lord, the God of Israel.  Judges 5:3 NASB

There is celebration in the heavenlies when we acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord over our lives.

He expects our heart to love Him, our minds to rely on His knowledge, our actions to be walked out with His wisdom, and our voices to be raised in song. Yes my friends let us sing a song of celebration! In every moment.

Choose to sing a song unto the Lord.

Instead of complaining, choose to declare and boast upon His marvellous works. Sing, and openly declare, about His Greatness — for His Love is everlasting.

Psalms 134:1-2 NASB Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord who minister by night in the house of the Lord. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.

I am certain we can learn to sing of hope. True, deep, unshakable hope that comes from knowing that God broke into our darkness, conquering it once and for all.

Every Christian every brother and sister who knows Jesus Christ as the risen saviour, has the greatest reason of all to celebrate!  ….. Our covenant with God to live out His kingdom while here on His earth - with all people - is breathtaking overwhelming and humbling all at the same time !

Psalms 42:11 NIV Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.

Like King David in psalm 42, like many generations before us, this broken world today- We all long for wholeness. For belonging. So we do our best to avoid the brokenness within and around us. We block it out, or we turn up the noise of our busy lives to distract ourselves. We pretend the darkness doesn’t exist. We choose not to sing.

But what if we sing? What if we sang songs of hope in our darkness? Of lament in our pain and brokenness but also of the coming wholeness with Holy Spirit?? What if we sang of both our suffering AND our coming glory? Singing of the eternal joy that will outlast and ultimately triumph over our sorrow? Wouldn’t such songs revive in us the hope and joy to overcome any upheaval now?

I’m not saying to gloss over and bury within anything you are experiencing, Ignoring the darkness doesn’t make it light. Avoiding brokenness doesn’t bring redemption.

But singing with Holy Spirit in the dark will heal us and change us. When our songs are directed toward God, the Giver of song and healing, they ultimately bring us into His presence. It takes courage to sing in the dark, especially in moments when our stories don’t make sense to us. When confusion and doubt overwhelm us. But this courage, it seems to me, grows as we sing, pray and sit with Jesus.
