Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. Ephesians 5:6-13 NASB
When confronted with a lie, from the world we are living in or it’s ruler - we absolutely need to go to Jesus, seeking to hear the truth He speaks authoritatively above all things, letting His truth disarm the lies that we have taken into our heart. And it doesn’t stop there! With God’s will - we need to be brave and walk in faith, to take action, demonstrating that we believe God’s truth over the lies of the enemy.
Jesus acknowledges the importance of our heart and empathizes with what it means to be human. He understands what it means to experience temptation, loneliness, grief, insecurity. So, when He says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in Me”, He is taking us where we will find peace for our weary hearts and inviting us into that place of rest under His unbounded authority.
God who created each and every one of us knows that this life is full of faith thieves like doubt, stress, fear, uncertainty and their physical manifestations of anxiety. He knows our weakness, that fear is our human response to situations we don’t understand and over which we have no control.
When this is our reality, we peer into the future and try to see what’s ahead of us and what we’re able to distinguish in the darkness and shadows leaves us crippled by it’s spirit fear and anxiety.
And fear is part of the enemy’s arsenal to wreak havoc in our lives, ultimately, diminishing - or attempting to diminish - our faith. The enemy is masterful at deception and so it’s strategy is to cause us to focus on our fears instead of eyes on the horizon, where Jesus stands victorious, with our eyes on the One in whom our faith rests, Jesus Christ.
