I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one…I write to you young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 1 John 2:13-14 NLT
Just as Jesus overcame the devil in the wilderness by quoting the truths of God’s Word from Deuteronomy, so also we are called to overcome temptation and discouragement today with God’s Word.
When God’s Word lives in us, it is expressed in how we think, speak and act. Overcoming sin, immorality, evil becomes a daily walk rather than a dramatic confrontation. The little choices of how we begin our day, what we fill our minds with and what centres our choices and values, all contribute to how we respond when faced with more significant testing of our faith, our joy in the Lord.
Talking a much loved sister the other day I shared some thoughts about how the world is certainly tilted and the enemy is enjoying the latest division it is playing with - and it feels like we are flamingos - all pink with what information we consume and yet standing off kilter on one leg.... grateful we Love God - Trust Jesus - Hear Holy Spirit .... Spending a lot of time walking in prayer.
The blessings and favor of God can easily be squandered on self-focused pursuits and personal gain. Holy Spirit points us in a way better direction. To Jesus.
Eyes on Him who saves! What an opportunity to point others who ask about our gentleness in a conflict and who wonder why we get out of bed grateful for the day ahead, to the source of the blessing – our very Living God.
